It does the trick, though a bit tricky Apr 07, 2008 For the most part, this bed rail does what we need it to do--it keeps our infant daughter from rolling off the bed (though she doesn't roll much yet). Here are its drawbacks:
1) The fabric is very tight, so it is hard to extend the parts and lock them into place.
2) The plastic pieces attached to the webbing that runs underneath the mattress to hold the rail snug against the bed sometimes slip and end up under the mattress.
3) There are about a million warnings on the rail that are not on the box including "don't use with children under X age" (I forgot the age).
Can do better. Feb 28, 2008 They were easy to install, but are very difficult to put up and down. Awkward. They aren't all that sturdy either.

Perfect for my son's captain's bed Feb 07, 2008 After much research looking at products in stores, and reading reviews on Amazon and other sites, I settled on this item for my 3-year old's captain's bed. Like other reviewers commented, many of the bedrails out there state that you need a boxspring to use - although technically you do need something flat to lie under this item, I got around that problem by placing a flat piece of plywood on top of the wood slats that his mattress sits on. This supports the "arms" of the bedrail, and the weight of the mattress basically holds in in place quite nicely (even without the included mattress straps).
As far as durability, my son is not easy on anything, and it has managed to hold up to his abuse (leaning against, occasional climbing, etc). It is also much taller than any of the others I looked at, so I feel secure that it will keep him from falling out of bed. The color is also nice, and I have gotten a lot of compliments on it.
The only complaint I have is that the fabric that is wrapped around the frame was so tight that it took some serious pulling to get the mechanisms to "lock in" and prevent it from collapsing when first setting it up. Also, since I can't really fold down the sides (this has more to do with the captain's bed frame being higher than the bottom of the unit), changing sheets is a serious workout!
I would highly recommend this item to anyone - especially for use with a captain's bed as described.

Smooth and flexible transitions Jan 16, 2008 Best part of this product is it comes fully assembled. Only adjustments needed are to fit whatever mattress you get. Item has great options to raise rail up and easily adjust width. Easy to use. I wasn't sure how the straps would work, but was pleasantly surprised to find that they are secure and hold the crib rail up tight to the mattress, in spite of my son turning circles in his sleep and pressing his feet against the rail. I find it has been a great transition from a crib to a bed which he can crawl in and out of on his own (I leave a small space for him to crawl in and out of bed if he needs to come to our adjoining bedroom at night). The bed makes him feel nice and cozy (like when he was sleeping in our bed) and he even goes to it on his own. It makes for a great night's sleep for all of us! I think it is as good as the other more expensive rails I used for my older children. Also, compact enough to fit into a suitcase. So far no real negatives. Easy to fold down, although you do need two hands to do so.

You may get what you pay for Dec 11, 2007 The user photos for this item show the rail installed incorrectly, and I don't beleive there is any safe way to install this rail on a convertable crib. It may be fine for a twin, full, or queen bed and was fully assembled and very easy to set up. But it is rather flimsy and I wouldn't sleep well knowing it may not hold.
The user photos are deceiving and should be removed. There is supposed to be 9" of clearence from the ends of the rail to the head and foot boards to prevent baby/toddler from being strangled.
