Congratulations, you're expecting a baby! What you may not be expecting is all of the requisite gear you "need" to look after your dear bundle. Fear not. Denise and Alan Fields, authors of Bridal Bargains, are here to tell you what's super and what's silly, and how to find it at the best price. You'll learn all about how (and where) to shop for a crib and dresser (including how to get European styling at reasonable prices), what you need in bedding and what can be skipped (a hint: no baby requires the $200 quilt!), which clothing brands are safest and least expensive, and how to shop for monitors, toys, car seats, strollers, books, videos, and more. The authors have field-tested every major brand (and several of the minor ones), and they provide star ratings and annotations at the end of every chapter. A helpful feature in each chapter called "Wastes of Money" will steer you away from $35 Baby Air Jordans and frilly diaper stackers that match your bedding. If that's not enough, they offer a money-back guarantee: If the book doesn't save you at least $250 in baby expenses, they'll refund the price of the book. Well researched and written in a witty and comfortable tone, Baby Bargains should be required reading for every safety- and money-conscious parent-to-be. --Rebecca A. Staffel

5Great Resource!  Jun 30, 2008
This book has been an incredible resource for a first time parent- lots of reviews and very practical advice on tons of products and brands.

5Oh yeah :)  Jun 28, 2008
This book is excellent. A friend of us got it for us and as first time parents it was very good to read the whole story right in one book. What is needed, what works for US and what is not needed etc. Perhaps some things leave questions in your mind, BUT if you are the first time parent. Pay the money and get it for yourself. If you are thinking about getting this as a gift for the first time parents, do what Nike does -> Just Do It i.e. buy the book.

5Do not go baby shopping without this  Jun 27, 2008
These people have done it again! An awesome reference book that informs about what to look for quality-wise, what's a rip off, and even what brands they recommend and why. I love it. A must read.

5just what a new mom needs  Jun 21, 2008
This book was reccomended to me and once I read through it, I realized how desperately I was looking for something like it! It's so helpful, organized, and no-nonsense. It tells you basically what's trendy- but total wastes of money, and where the best places are to buy bedding, gear, etc. I loved this book and have passed the word along to many expectant moms.

4love the "sample registry," wish they reviewed changing tables  Jun 17, 2008
Buying stuff for kids is completely overwhelming - way too much to know and compare! I used the sample registry in the back as a jumping-off point for building my own, it was a huge time saver.

I only wish they had reviewed some changing tables, or at least told me what to expect in a high-quality model vs. low-end. All they say is "use the top of a dresser, tables are a waste of money" but that doesn't help us. We got a changing table as a gift, and can't find any solid info about whether it's a good brand or not, even on their website/forum.
